14th Annual Outstanding Youth Awards
Each year, in conjunction with Henrico County Prevention Services, and varying independent sponsors, the Too Smart 2 Start Coalition has sponsored the recognition of volunteerism among Henrico County youth. At a time when “bad news” is the news, the Outstanding Youth Volunteer Awards demonstrate that there is a lot of good news to be
celebrated in the community. Young people are accomplishing great deeds and in the process, learning and demonstrating compassion, helpfulness and the spirit of community through volunteering. Through the Outstanding Youth Awards, over the last several years, the Too Smart 2 Start Coalition and its co-sponsors have recognized over 150 youth who have exemplified a strong commitment to making their communities a better place through service learning/volunteerism. Virginia Commonwealth University sponsored the Outstanding Youth Volunteer Awards for 2009. Virginia Commonwealth University's Honors Dept, along with The VCU Division of Community Engagement, partner with the Henrico Too Smart 2 Start Coalition to sponsor the Outstanding Youth Volunteer Awards for 2009. The Youth Awards Ceremony was held Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 7pm at VCU's newly renovated James W. Black Music Center, located at 1015 Grove Ave.
